Ddzx, no sharper contrast can be drawn illustrating love versus lack of love than between Jesus & the religious leaders.
(John 7:43-49) So a division over him arose among the crowd.  Some of them, though, wanted to seize him, but no one laid his hands on him.  Then the officers went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, and the latter said to them: “Why did you not bring him in?”  The officers replied: “Never has any man spoken like this.” In turn the Pharisees answered: “You have not been misled also, have you?  Not one of the rulers or of the Pharisees has put faith in him, has he? But this crowd who do not know the Law are accursed people.”
Jesus love of God & neighbor was evident in both his teaching & conduct, whereas the Pharisees saw others as "accursed people.” This does not mean however that Jesus condoned wrongdoing.
Actually Jesus went beyond the Law's requirement of "love your fellow man as yourself." (Leviticus 19:18)
(John 13:34, 35) I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are my disciples—if you have love among yourselves.”
This was to be the litmus test as to true disciples. They were to love one another,"just as I have loved you," which proved to be a self sacrificing love.
(John 15:13) No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his life in behalf of his friends.
