Jesus love of God & neighbor was evident in both his teaching & conduct, whereas the Pharisees saw others as "accursed people.” This does not mean however that Jesus condoned wrongdoing.
If this is true why do Jehovah's Witnesses only appear to freely associate (except to spread their version of religion) with other Jehovah's Witnesses to avoid having their souls polluted? I see the Pharisees seeing others as "accursed people” in the same light.
Actually Jesus went beyond the Law's requirement of "love your fellow man as yourself." (Leviticus 19:18)
(John 13:34, 35) I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples—if you have love among yourselves.”
This was to be the litmus test as to true disciples. They were to love one another,"just as I have loved you," which proved to be a self sacrificing love.
That's the easier bit. Although it must be said that there is little evidence of love among what appears to be a very divided discipleship among Jesus' followers.
What is even more difficult is to love your enemies which would include those who see discipleship in a different light to yourself. Love for Enemies
Matthew 5:43-48 New International Version (NIV) 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbora and hate your enemy. 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
(John 15:13) No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his life in behalf of his friends.
If someone dies in a war situation to protect you freedom, does that count?
