Two things:
Finger prick is definitely a trump card and like you said it will allow almost anyone to operate it. A paramedic on the ground or anyone for that matter could still use it in situations that are not ideal eg. low light, collapsed vein etc. I agree that it won't rival the Philip's device. Well it wouldn't want to! They may have even played around with lateral flow assays themselves just to make sure though.
