Really? What would you call the $40m they lost on A40? "Unnecessary" seems to be a pretty good description.

We can't rule it out, but the same question has come up many times in the last few years and there's never been a shred of evidence to support it.

GXY has a mine that's barely breaking even and two projects they seem in no rush to develop. Adding a third would only complicate their lives. Plus drain that cash which they sorely need for SdV and James Bay.

There's a better argument for it with an operational P1 that they could ship tailings to from Mt Cattlin and make some extra money, but that's a while away yet. A takeover now would just give them another project they have to fund and develop.

Also pretty unlikely the board would go for it, unless they have completely exhausted the options for offtake and finance. No evidence of that either, especially with the BASF MOU being extended.

We can't say GXY won't try, but it doesn't look like a smart play for them right now. It's just idle chatter and/or scaremongering.
