I've never heard of SM doing anything with cathodes or batteries directly. I don't know if they have the capability to do that and I doubt that it would have happened without being mentioned to us. They're hydrometallurgists, not battery makers.
The team focus on delivering a quality product and leaving the battery producers to verify it will work in their processes. There are many different ways to make the same types of batteries, and material that works for one may not work for another.
