It's possible. But the silicate market in North America is 1.5m tonnes, so our initial 50,000t is unlikely to make too much of a dent. Debottlenecked P1 producing more could become an issue, but maybe that's why the team have developed S-Max to make amorphous silica instead. Plenty of options there.
Even in that situation, a plant in Asia being fed with concentrate from WA is going to make more sense, I think. If the price of sodium silicate is dropping, it becomes more important to have it produced close to the manufacturers who use it.
It's always going to be more expensive to ship 50,000t of a refined product than it is to ship 30,000t of bulk ore.
But I'll get into that later when I have more time.
