Shorten partly lost the last election over it. Nobody told him that the '400km range' often quoted did NOT work if you averaged 100km/h. He talked about one car he was told had a 600km+ range and how he, when elected, would drive from Melbourne to Canberra on one charge. Nobody told him the range at 100km/h was well under 300km. 600km+ range was best case city mixed driving, usually at 30km/h to 60km/h. That would make it an 11 hour drive if straight through or 8-9 hours inc stoppages/recharges.

But things will improve. Quick recharges/top-ups are getting more efficient especially. Rest stops may eventually have fast chargers, though fast charge technology costing a bomb at the moment and only on expensive vehicles.
