Im not 100% on the legality side of it all, but the guys on the mesoblast forum were talking about it maybe 6 months back, some of them were wondering the same thing. But in a nutshell from their research (and the non existent Ann’s) It turned out it was optional if the company wanted to inform the market but wasn’t a compulsory announcement to the asx....
in the end its a protection right for the company.
One could nearly consider it in the same boat as insurance with a few added bonuses imo. would they need to notify the market if they took out a new insurance policy?
But yes I agree it should be announced to shareholders as the patent can generate future revenue or be used as leverage to further the company.
I imagine they could announce it during a presentation or in the 4c maybe?
Patents are a very common thing nowadays, and I can honestly say I’ve never seen an announcement on the asx for a new patent...

I haven’t researched this personally so it may pay to do some research if your not too happy or sure about it rather than take my word which came from the words of others lol.
