Desert Lion was a Lepidolite producer without their own downstream production.
The only reason Lepidolite became a worthwhile product is because the Spodumene price climbed into $1000 per tonne. Once there was an oversupply of Spodumene no one wanted to buy Lepidolite anymore and Desert Lion had a project that was worthless. It was only of value to Lepidico because they needed to be able to prove they may have a consistent supply source for their pilot plant. It is obvious that Lepidico was deseperate for that when you look at the deal they did. Noticing that none of the Desert Lion management stuck around after.
If your argument for Lepidico is differentiating from the previous Lepidolite process of roasting not being environmentally friendly then what about all the global supply that comes from Spodumene? The small amount of production that Lepdico might make after whatever desperate deal they do will not make much of a difference to the environment should it have been done by roasting, especially when you consider that current converters feeds can diversify into more readily available materials than what L-Max can.
