I've been rather dismissive about the importance of the environmental credentials companies require to develop mines. I always assumed that cost and demand would outweigh these factors. China will probably continue to ignore these and continue to service their domestic market unencumbered however, eventually investors and the public will inform policy that will change business outlooks forever. Just looking at the trouble that SQM and Rio Tinto even in the wake of lithium shortage does make you think.
