yes I am being the devil's advocate here.
I am confused by your post though.
The legally binding agreements have been challenged by Codelco. It's with the Supreme court that was supposed to make a ruling weeks ago.
Free trade agreements are not going to stop a seriously Socialist Govt from Nationalizing Lithium. Indeed, the Govt has stated categorically several times that it owns all the Lithium and Boric himself is not moving away from that. Chile did it with copper back in the 1970s.
If the Govt wants to attract international investment then why doesn't it just allow LPI and Simco to go ahead? They're doing a terrible job on that front.
Yes, I agree that Nationalizing Lithium would lead to court cases but the alternative offer from the Govt (Boric) could be that the project is never approved to go ahead, which is where we are now. Stuck in a bind with the Chilean Govt.
This Govt would see it as a win (imo) if it does succeed in taking over all Lithium projects and I suspect the people of Chile would too. It's LATAM after all, which is seriously socialist even under the supposed right wing Govt previously. Remember the riots in Santiago over welfare payments?
Your last sentence is true though. If what you say earlier in the post is true, then the only outcome for LPI would be positive.
I am hoping that the Chileans do not go down the path of Nationalizing private Lithium projects because I have a lot to lose. Already have lost a lot.
