Boric announced that Codelco and Enami will have a key role in the strategic definition of the exploration and exploitation of salt flats other than the Atacama salt flat. According to Boric, both companies will be awarded contracts for said purposes "in those salt flats where there are projects in different stages of development."
Codelco currently has properties in the Salar de Maricunga, where Salar Blanco and Simco also have mining rights, an alliance formed between Cominor, a group led by Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ovalle, and the Singaporean company Simbalik. Codelco also has holdings in the Salar Pedernales. Enami, on the other hand, has mining properties in the Siete Salares area.
"These companies will be able to decide whether to associate with other private ones," said Boric, about the role that state companies will play in the other fields.
"For the other salt flats that are considered susceptible to exploitation, a public, transparent and informed bidding process will begin for private exploration contracts added to State prospecting," Boric announced.
