Paddy is the First Officer on Irish Airlines Jumbo Flight 747 into Sydney.
The Captain asks Paddy to take over the controls for landing....
The 747 approaches the runway all systems go. Closer, closer, Paddy brings the Jumbo towards the runway.
As the wheels touch the ground - Paddy slams on the brakes, black rubber billowing into the air, the engines of the big tin bird scream into full reverse throttle...Paddy releases a parachute from the back trying to increase the deceleration...the noice is horrendous, the plane is shuddering violently but with incredible precision the massive beast is brought to a dead halt - in just 15 metres!!
When the Captain and Paddy pull their noses off the windscreen, the Captain just stares straight ahead and in a calm voice says "that's got to be shortest runway i've ever seen". Paddy (still shaking and sweating) looks left, then right and replies... "and the widest!"
