Have a look for "sentiment analysis" with respect to trading. There are countless bots that listen to channels like this and buy\sell automatically based on simple analyses of words in posts. So by kick-starting a fire, and causing general negative attitudes within the context of a particular stock, the sell bots can get triggered.
