Posters should listen to Joe Lowry or Mr Lithium’s latest podcast on lithium number 179. He trashes Wood McKenzie's view that lithium prices will stay at current unrealistic low prices for next 5 years. He offers his own views on the market.

I also noted some good comments about projecting lithium prices in today’s AFR. See image below. That is, the lithium market is still very small and is immature and quite opaque making it difficult to project demand, supply and hence prices. I agree with this view - just go back 12 months and see the sky high pice projections and now look at them projecting prices half that level. It is difficult enough projecting prices in a big mature market, like copper even 12 months ahead alone in 3-5 years for a small immature lithium market.

The heading of the AFR article is very appropriate as that is what has happened to the lithium market in the last 10 years and shows no signs of stopping. Best to stick with low cost lithium companies with a big resource.

The article also note the spot market for lithium is very small and most pricing is done a contract basis.

I take all these price projections with a grain of salt and ignore anything muc( longer than 12 months. Mr Lithium and others are right that long term average prices will tend to average at levels at least around the highest cost producers - the same goes for many other commodities
