I am reminded of something Warren Buffet once said, "If I had never sold a stock, I would be much wealthier." That's why he can make (and win) the bet with the hedge fun guys that index funds could beat their picks over ten years. And these guys are people who move and manipulate markets and are privy to all kinds of information an average retail investor would never have access to.

Relying on "hunches" and "gut feelings" in the era of algorithms, "flash boys" and endless manipulation is a fool's errand. For me, they have mostly resulted in donating extra money to brokerages fees, where I would have made more money simply being patient.

It's amazing how all these people that always manage to sell right at the top and buy right at the bottom always seems to tell the story after the fact. You would hope they might share their powers with us in advance.
