Well a limie having a look, I find the references to dusters somewhat strange and incorrect information. If you DYOR you will realise that actually we discovered 1 trillion cu ft gas which at present realistically has a well value of $3 per cubic foot, but at the time of discovery was useless, so we sealed the well. However the goal posts have now moved.
Why you may ask, well the State of Alaskas who realise that the State is sitting on vast volumes of gas, so

1). They do intend to build a 42" gas pipeline along side TAPS, which is not only expensive but not built in a day.
2). In the short term they intend to build a gas pipeline from the North slope to the north coast. This will allow them to build both a gas and Hydrogen production plants which can be shipped to the market using icebreaker tankers as the Russians already have to do. Also they intend to build the infrastructure for a domestic gas supply, thereby creating a domestic market.
3). Consideration is being given to well head hydrogen production plants to road tanker to the market, indeed DJW has alluded to the possibility of this.
So to conclude DJW has indeed left us with on hell of a legacy!
