Resigned Battler - you accept your lot in life, though are always seeking to make the most of any investment opportunity. You know what you know and you pretty much know what you don't know. You spread your risks as much as possible but occasionally go 'all in' on a 'game-changing speccy'. Some pay-off. Some do not. Typically survive to fight another day. You play within the rules as you understand them.

Player - has the tools, techniques and attitude to play along with the system or better still join the system. You are consistently one step ahead of the market. You rarely work alone and you have the power of institutions behind you (advising, executing, pooling etc). You benefit from knowing things before the hoi-polloi....sometime only seconds, but that is often all it takes. You are part of the system that tests the regulators ability to apply the rules to you.

FWIW....I think I am somewhere between stage 2 and 3 and it has taken me 20 years to get there. I know those who have gone through all 4 stages in 2 years.
