Experimental investigations of the wettability of clays and shales (PDF Download Available). Available from:
https://www.researchgate.net/public...ations_of_the_wettability_of_clays_and_shales [accessed Jul 29, 2017].
Quote:
" To explore the effects of natural wettability variation two shales from Aust ralia were
chosen:
(1) a sample from the Bass Basin (O1A), which
contains quartz and kaolin and is hydrophobic,
and
(2) a sample from the continental Officer Basin in Western
Australia (L1_390), which contains abundant illite and is
strongly hydrophilic (Table 1)."
So its the L1_390 that has obvious implications for the HRZ.
NOTE: Important to realise the illite % present in the HRZ will be substantially different to that in this sample used in the research. However the illite in the HRZ should be the dominant factor when considering the wettability factor apart from the abundant Quartzite present which will readily wet anyway, a bit like water into sand.
