The Crisis Defined
If they were right, that leaves us with a massive sense of responsibility. For we, by how we choose to live our lives, will perpetually redefine what it is to be human.
Unhelpfully, this means we have no guidebook, scorecard, or firm moorings. We are completely alone in our freedom, bearing infinite responsibility, yet forever alienated from any possibility of feedback or validation.
The exhilarating, unparsable and mostly crushing feeling of that realization?
That's existential angst.
Note: Some folks consider a life crisis as a form of existential crisis. The difference is more degree than kind. The first is more limited and defined. A person undergoing one might feel like they need to question everything, and might have serious, if situational, concerns about morals, life, love or the nature of existence itself.
But that's still different than feeling the weight that they alone are responsible for working that out in isolation. With typical life crises, we feel lost in our own head, yet we still function and act according to those models of reality that we question. We never quite leave them behind. In the existential model, the tether is cut completely.

Tricky to know how that might apply to me, from a hard, financial point of view, and i'm working on that.
It did though help the mind's balance.
