I would guess 90% of people cant read a balance sheet and have to rely on the financial press and advisors for info on shares,unfortunatly many of these people are in the same boat and it becomes the blind leading the blind.When panic sets in you get a large overreaction and frenzied selling occurs ,it has always been thus.
