Imugene has created the first
ever viable vaccine for a disease which has been playing havoc with the reproductive
and respiratory systems of pigs since sometime late in the 1980s. PRRS is estimated
to cost the U.S. pig industry alone some US$600m annually, and Imugene reckons its
vaccine could sell US$100m a year. Allow a single-digit royalty on that figure and
Imugene in this analyst's opinion is set to gain something like A$5 to A$8m a year in
ongoing royalties from a product one imagines will be brought onto the market by the
lucky licensee of the product - probably an animal health major like Merial - fairly
swiftly.
