The Minerals Council, of which Mantle is a member are firm believers in the superiority of Aus coal due to low ash content.
It is also a significant factor in the demand for Aus coking coal for steel making. Low Ash content is a big factor in the steel making process as well.
I believe it is a factor in Bacchus Marsh coal not being ideal as a source of brown coal based met coal.
