I think it's important to remember that rare earths market is currently controlled by the Chinese government. They control prices through increasing or decreasing supply and have caused rare earth companies to collapse only to swoop in and snap them up cheap over the years. In one of those instances, Lynas survived only because of the support of a Japanese government backed entity. I'm not sure that it's as simple as letting the market decide.
