It's either capital gain or offset losses against capital gains - Both of the option is how my later ends. I enjoy contrarian bets, some successful, some failures. It really doesn't matter either way.
Speculating on Lynas is speculating on the future of Western REE producers.
Lets see how it unfolds.
If I remember right, solar power related companies in USA just around five years ago were really struggling to be solvent (if it was not for the financial grants that they got from their government, they would had been insolvent), yet some of these companies have now become billion dollar revenue generating companies. And the outlook for them is currently positive considering India's plan to have 100 Gigawatts of solar power by 2020 from currently installed capacity of 3 gigawatts. This plan of India is also a black swan event that has completely become positive factor for investing in US/China/India based solar power companies.
And yes, that also mean a lot more demand for rare earth minerals.
Who know what black swan event lies ahead for the rare earth industry....
