There has been a lot of theories go around about Lynas at the moment. These have been both positive and negative.
Until a TOL and ultimately, a permanent operating license is granted, Lynas will be an emotive subject for many HC members.

Today, we have had a leading Malaysian radiology safety adviser state that the LAMP is safe. See excerpt below.

“Beleaguered Australian miner Lynas Corp., whose Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) in Malaysia continues to be embroiled in a nasty game of domestic politicking and misinformed public, has been given a thumbs up for safety and low radiation emission no less than by a Malaysian radiology expert.

Professor Ismail Bahari, radiology safety adviser for Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd, assured the Malaysian locals the rare earth processing plant at the Gebeng Industrial Estate in Kuantan, Pahang, is safe and nontoxic.”

In addition Lynas have endeavored to assure residents that there will be no residue to be concerned with and ongoing questions around a PDF are unfounded and baseless.

    See excerpt below

“Eric Noyrez, president and chief operating officer of Lynas Corp., had earlier pointed out that the residues to be produced from the LAMP will be converted into fertilisers, plaster boards, other hardcore base for road construction and other potentially economically viable products. There would be essentially nothing left of the ill residue, Mr Noyrez noted.

"We have no intention to dump the waste (from LAMP) as we see money in them and have developed the technology to turn them into saleable items. All these have been done at both laboratory and pilot scales, using between 100 and 200 tonnes of the raw material," Mr Noyrez said earlier this month.”

Virtually all of the protestors claims have been proven as baseless and proven to be inaccurate by Lynas.

    See excerpt below

“But the objections, Mr Bahari pointed out, were baseless and unsupported with valid evidence. “
"The person who led the allegations never came to Lynas, never suggested or showed to Lynas what the real issue is. Each time Lynas comes out with an explanation, we show the proof, we give handouts to the public and also the opposition."

    What next from the protestors?

This Saturday the Bersih are holding a sit in demonstration to press their agenda for Political reform.
This demonstration is a political one and has no relevance to Lynas or the LAMP.

    HOWEVER…

The below article refers to the Bersih inviting the Himpunan Hijau to supplement their failing crowd numbers. The Himpunan Hijau are the Lynas protestors who also are suffering form low numbers so have joined together so that are seen as a larger force.

In short, neither have the numbers they need so have cobbled together a motley crew to seem larger than what they really are.

This will be followed up by a few photos and some more half-truths designed to further their cause.

How do Lynas win against this sort of tactic? They are aligned with the government and will prevail however the road to success is an ongoing task which will require patience from Lynas and their shareholders.

    Excerpt from Bersih article
“BERSIH called a demonstration to press their agenda of electoral reform.

Unless, of course, the Police are bluffing or BERSIH cannot summon the crowds they successfully did in November 2007, when the first edition of their push for polls reform took place in Kuala Lumpur, and last July 9, when they pulled off a repeat edition in the teeth of a massive Police shutdown of central KL.

Expect in the next 72 hours that protest plans by BERSIH would accelerate along careworn and confidential lines – certainly, on how the protest crowd is going to evade the Police barricades that are almost certain to be thrown around the approaches to Dataran Merdeka.

Because this BERSIH protest will be joined by the Himpunan Hijau movement set up by the anti-Lynas crowd, expect that vibrant young protesters would embroider the occasion with cameo roles as striking as Annie Ooi’s, dubbed the ‘Lady of Liberty’, after impressive pictures emerged of her inspiriting spontaneity.”
