"reliable access to these elements and magnets, automotive suppliers will be unable to produce critical automotive components" From Reuters
If you think back a little every thing you list was available before year 2000. At that point Nd perm magnets were available but were not used in cars at all. I will agree Nd Perm magnets Have many advantages and that is why They have shown up in so many applications. I will also agree that sudden lack of perm magnets will stop for a short period some production. There are many alternatives. Like FE16N2 magnets that should be much less expensive, more powerful. And operate over a larger temp range if some production issues can be overcome. They have already been designed into small products like hearing aides and will be on market in early 2026. Much of the progress for perm magnets in last 10 years has been in Motor control and design. All of these if applied to a standard Copper moter will result in significant improvement. Coper will still be heavier and less efficient than PM but the difference will become much smaller if. All it will take is supply problems in the Nd market. To think that lack of anything will bring an industry to a haul is just ignoring history. Could it cause short trm disruptions? Yes. Could it add cost and lower performance a little bit? Yes. But to think the world would stop is just not true.
Do not forget When China loses a major source of Revenue. US sees major production stoppages, Short Term, Both parties will seek a solution. Your statement came from Accurate reporting but totally unaware of history and scientific advancement.
JMO but FE16N2 Are in a similar state to FeNdB magnets 10 ~ 20 years ago. Nd magnets took a long time to developed because the market was not there. The market is now in an advanced state of development with supply problems. I believe Money will be applied to FE16N2 and other replacements to accelerate its development Reducing it to 3~ 5 years. It is already being used in many high-performance but smaller applications. Just like FeNdB was a Few decades ago,
Here is a recent article. Yes, there is some over optimism

Here is an article from 2018. I think you will find that we are ahead of what people thought at this conference 7 years ago,
Fe16N2: from a 40-year mystery of magnetic materials to one of promises for rare-earth-free magnets | IEEE Conference Publication | IEEE Xplore
Will FE16N2 be a replacement for FeNdB magnets I do not know But of all the things I know about it looks like the most promising in the short term. If China cuts of REE than many older solution will be used until new things like FE16N2 can be implemented.
