    One poster was postulating that when the Chevron patents expired car makers would move to NiMH over Lithium.
    My posts were to point out that will not happen on FULL ELECTRIC cars because NIMH batteries would weigh to much.

    Even that article you posted on BASF says car makers our counting on Li coming down in cost and going up in density.

    For every article you can find on NiMH I can find 5 on Lithium Ion developments including cost reduction multiples of current power density and safety.

    why have phones, laptops cordless power tools moved to Li. Hybrid cars get away with NiMH batteries because they have very little storage capacity as they are constantly recharging the battery and the electric motor is only used for low speeds (with very limited range) or to aid the petrol motor in accelerating or going uphills.
