Critical aspect here if the US finally getting serious is DOD establishing the critical pathways to turn RE oxides into usable "products" or inputs to components.

They have subsidised two SmCo mag makers in the US for about a decade due to their criticality in missile guidance systems, so not as if there isn't a template.

The only way startups in the middle supply chain will compete with China commercially will be by heavy Govt subsidies for most of a decade. Tariffs would simply push more manufacturing offshore.

IMO the US has squandered a decade and run this right to the wire, China likely to leverage its MSC dominance early next decade.

Certainly be interesting to see if this time some co-ordinated response develops beyond the rhetoric.
