MP Materials is still ramping up their refining operations, which are the same operations that were shut down for years. It is the same technology they were using then. I would say based on common sense that Lynas has lower processing costs regardless. Especially when considering the level of automation and the cost of labor in Malaysia versus California.
These processing costs will probably rise when the US plants come on line, but still, it's all about cost per ton and in the end market proximity and demand. Until the US has the ability to make batteries and other downstream products this will be a challenge.
