Gold isn't considered as dirty as coal, and I appreciate the concerns from the community, but the fact is the state of NSW needs the money from the development of the mine, it needs the money from the operation of the mine (20+ years), and it needs the jobs are these extended lockdowns.
I believe if the company can address the concerns in a satisfactory manner, the government will be eager to approve it, even with objection from the community.
I mean, look at these lockdowns, people and businesses want them to end, but still they persist despite significant evidence that other countries have been able to re-open without a "zero covid" approach and crippling effects on the populations (despite some deaths which are tragic).
