Any t/o offer from BP won't come in at the current market price, it will come in at the bidder's valuation based on a variety of metrics and competitive pressure and it is then up to the NEU board to recommend it to shareholders or not based on their valuation. Considering the commercial potential of 2591 and looking at comparable industry transactions over the last couple of years, I can't see a valuation below AUD$5 bn being seriously entertained which is still double today's SP.
This is also one the reasons why talk of shorting this company amuses me - can you imagine being caught short when a t/o offer for at least twice the current SP comes in?!
