Beaver - I certainly don't discount what you wrote as being exactly the reasons behind today's leap. That said, I just thought the rush, then dropoff/lull midway through the day tended to indicate that people had had their fill.
To see the last hour change as it did struck me like something on top of the Hartleys Report/News Stories might have been in play, especially given that people presumably read the papers in the early morn.
Either way, a good day for us all.
