Just wondering what people think the Mackellar field is worth to MEL.
The Australian today says that: -Gas prices are at $8 per Gj today -Spot LNG prices in Asia reached a record last month of $US18.70 -That means that domestic gas prices could soar to $18 per Gj if the Gladstone projects cant meet their contracted volumes.
That made me wonder what the Mackellar field is worth. MEL says that it has a PMean OGIP of 1,312 Bcf. Lets assume a 30% recovery rate, so OGIP of 393.6 Bcf. Assume it is really expensive gas to produce and costs around $4 to get out of the ground and delivered. That would still make the field worth around $1.5 Bn at $8 gas – even more at $18 per Gj.
MEL has already made a discovery on this field with the Kingfisher well, so we know that the structure is gas charged. Drilling updip can only provide more certainty about the structure.
With all of this distraction with the Ferals everyone seems to have forgotten what the main game is...EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY.
I cant understand why the market isnt more excited about this well. How many other 1TCF+ prospects are being drilled onshore in Australia?
