I mentioned previously that IMO this would be a great pickup for MQG.
AFG have some terrific assets/businesses (namely leasing) which are highly sought after. The only issue for them was growing funds under management and other transactional business requiring funding given the severe share price slide and media attention harming their reputation. And an investment bank really does need to have a solid reputation in order to raise funds. This would have taken some time to re-establish.
So, with Macquarie's strong reputation, and AFG's assets, this will be a great deal all round.
Hopefully shareholders of AFG are suitably compensated with a reasonable offer price.
