MACQUARIE Group is jumping up and down with keen interest to take control of the Amadeus Basin gas assets.
The sale Mereenie and the Mereenie-to-Alice Springs Pipeline will take effect on January 1, so not long to go befor this asset becomes the bank and hence, will need to find operators for the 50% aquasition ASAP.

Whether penny dreadful Central could have taken on responsibility for Mereenie is also unknown, but it seems unlikely given Macquarie has been one of its major funders and wants the entire kit and caboodle. So begs the question, at what price will Mac pay for the lock, stock and barrel.
Last year it agreed to buy a 50% operated interest in Mereenie, which Magellan had transferred to Santos, for $45 million plus a $10 million free carry on exploration, which has since been paid out.
Macquarie backed central with its 50% operated interest in Mereenie, and a $10 million free carry on exploration, so it begs the question, who has been clever in this game of chess, big Mac or central. So far the purchase of the other 50% to bank has proved to be more favourable towards to bank having played a long lead game leading to yesterdays annoucement.
A new offer from Macquarie is expected in the future, and it would deliver not only total control of the central Australian gas production hubs, but potentially massive gas and hydrogen exploration upside, with a number of company-making targets being derisked by Santos in the Amadeus Basin including the sub-salt Dukas lead near the Mount Kitty-1 discovery which could unlock a multi-Tcf gas resources.
