Anti-Jones Facebook group threatened with violence

A FACEBOOK group set up to oppose sexism after Alan Jones declared women were "destroying the joint", says it has reported threats made against it to police. The "Destroy the Joint" group, which has more than 14,000 Facebook members and 1700 Twitter followers, said tonight it had received "a very large volume of comments from people best described as trolls" following comments Alan Jones made on Sydney's 2GB this morning.
"These trolls have made deeply offensive comments that have now escalated into threats of violence. These comments are completely unacceptable - hate speech is exactly what we stand against," a statement on the page said.
"In light of the nature of these threats and comments we have taken the decision to temporarily restrict posting on this page. We have also taken screen shoots and we will be passing these onto the police."
On air this morning, the broadcaster said his advertisers had been cyber-bullied by people involved in the online campaign calling for companies to cease their support of his show. Advertisement
Jones's employer, the Macquarie Radio Network, yesterday took the unprecedented step of suspending all advertising on Jones's breakfast show on 2GB, after a week of sustained pressure that has led to it losing more than 70 sponsors and advertisers.
The Destroy the Joint movement was created last month following critical comments Mr Jones made towards the Prime Minister, former Victorian police commissioner Christine Nixon and Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore.
On September 30, Mr Jones apologised to Ms Gillard after he told the Young Liberals branch of Sydney University that her late father had "died of shame"
