Macquarie target up 18% to A$2.00 - Bell Potter up 61.6% to A$2.15

In addition, the modelling was released this afternoon by the Australian Govt on their shonky 'Net Zero by 2050' target (which should actually be called '85% to Net Zero by 2050' as 15% of the modelling is for unknown unexplained advances in technology).

But a couple of insights amongst the fluff in the 100 pages of modelling:

A fall in the value of coal by around 50 per cent between now and 2050." Specifically, global demand shifts beyond Australian control are expected to reduce the value of coal production," it says. Growth of gas is also expected to rise but eventually slow.

On the flip side, agriculture is expected to grow by around 30 per cent, mining by 5 per cent with EV-centric minerals in the box-seat, and heavy industries around 110 per cent thanks in large part to mining for things like critical minerals (think lithium, which is needed for renewable energy storage).

Two of the big sectors that the modelling sees "decarbonising" between now and 2050 are energy and road transport — and it makes the point that both are well on the way right now.It forecasts that by 2050, 90 per cent of vehicles will be electric and emit zero emissions. The EV sector would rise so much faster if the Federal government offered incentives as policy, with all of the heavy lifting being done by the states, both Labor and Liberal.
