My post and kevinca's do not clash, because we are looking at different things. he looks, I think, at the whole spectrum of invetments, where macroeconomics and othe big-picture things are important.

In my post, I looked only at CCP as a business that tends not to be much affected by macroeconomics, because macroeconomics is a double-edged knife that cuts both ways, and debt buying is also a double-edged business that thrives when the economy booms, or slumps. Collections tend to be good in booms, and in slumps, debt portfolios tend to be cheap. The trick for these companies to have enough headroom (cash and credit facilities) to spend in the slumps. Some companies are not diciplined enough to do that., which is why they fail., as CCP nearly did in 2009 .

One can occasionally play CCP as a trading stock, because it tends to be over valued wth a PER close to 20, but then it slumps for stupid reasons. A few years ago some unknown person wrote a childish error-filled report that the AFR published, and many retail investors panicked, and dumped CCP. Management had to call a trading halt, followed by an update of the true situation. Recently Covid created a panic, and the SP dropped to below $7. I delayed a few days, and only got in at about $11, and bought in a later CR at $12.50. I sold those shares held personally at circa $35.50, but held the CCP shares in my SMSF portfolio (a much larger holding). Of course, I should have sold those too, and got back in below $20, but I was not smart enough to do that.

Anyhow, let us see what the 2 August report holds.
