'Mad Monday' is a term commonly used in Australia to refer to the end of Half Year celebrations for professional retail investors of Slater & Gordon. Share investing is typically played on weekdays, so as the Half Year nears its end with shorts being eliminated, by Monday morning all results will have been determined and investors will then know of Slaters cash generating abilities. With the HY finished, Mad Monday celebrations ensue, often involving heavy drinking. Over the years, Mad Monday celebrations have been the catalyst for image-damaging incidents for professional investors. This has led to calls for the tradition to be banned.
