Explorer says uranium confirmed in Namibian campaign

ASX-listed Western Australian Metals on Tuesday announced that it had received significant uranium results from the first phase of a trench and pit geochemical sampling programme over parts of its Marenica uranium project, in Namibia.

In an emailed statement, the company said that the results confirmed the presence of significant and widespread areas of near-surface uranium mineralisation.

The results included mineralisation at three metres of 1 483 ppm uranium, 868 ppm uranium at five metres and 241 ppm at 80 m.

The exploration trenches and pit lay in an 18-km2 area containing numerous zones of surface and near-surface uranium mineralisation, for which resources were calculated by major gold-producer Gold Fields, in 1983, following the completion of major drill programmes.

Western Australian Metals was targeting this, with the objective of defining resources containing at least 8 000 t of uranium mineralisation.

The statement also said that the second phase of the sampling programme had also been completed, and the samples were ready for dispatch to a laboratory in South Africa
