    thalweg, I think you might be being a bit harsh on the doctors there. If they treated every touch of post viral pneumonia as a potential cardiac case they wouldn't have enough staff.

    Yes, they probably mis-diagnosed: but that happens! Nobody gets everything right all the time. They are only human.

    As the article says:

    "Intensive care specialist at John Hunter Hospital, Martin Rowley, said Maddie had cardiomyopathy and myocarditis, which cause inflammation of the heart.
    "These severe complications are rare but may be life-threatening. A combination of the two viruses in vulnerable patients is of concern," said Dr Rowley."

    And being so young it would be difficult for her to explain how she was feeling to the staff. It all happened very quickly, she was only in hospital for 12 hours, hardly time to rush the blood tests through for all the viruses it could have been.

    Really very sad.
