I decided to test your "apples". I bought one at Coles and one at Aldi. They looked much the same. The Coles one was a lot sweeter than the Aldi. Aldi, in my opinion second grade, picked too soon.

Some apples are kept in storage for up to a year, it enables supply 365 days of the year. Unless you go to farmers markets or where you've got local supplies in season there's no such thing as 'freshly picked' anymore.
