Located 15km from the Karara magnetite deposit, the Mungada Hematite Project contains several hematite prospects geologically similar to the historic WMC hematite production centres - 3km to the west.
During the early 1970s, Western Mining Corporation produced 450,000 tonnes of ore grading 61% Fe from operations at Mungada and Mungada West, where current reserves are calculated at 3 million tonnes at 60% Fe.
In January 2007, Gindalbie announced an initial hematite resource of 14 million tonnes at 60.6% Fe. By completing substantial drilling programs, in July 2007, the company announced a 62% increase in hematite resources to 22.8 million tonnes at 61.9% Fe, contained within 10 deposits. Further drilling at hematite discoveries highlights the potential of the area to host additional hematite resources
