Don't take the downturn in prices as a guide, pretty much anything that needs a structural component needs steel.

The structural light bits that go into aircraft are really expensive. Someday someone will combine hemp fibres (what are they 5 times the tensile strength of wood fibres) with resin to form good lightweight beams, but at best will still cost the same as steel which is infinately stronger.

The world is in a mess, it wont always be, once it is sorted out that will change and iron ore will reach a reasonable price level. All those deposits in Africa are mainly backed by semi tribal (ragbag) governments. The ratbag government we have (as will the copper price) will change before CDU goes mining.
