I did that last year. The smell off food scraps attracted rats. So I stopped, then the magpies decided they would let me know it wasn't appreciated by shitting all over the driveway and pavement. Conditional love! They don't get nuthin' from me nowadays, and if they dare swoop me, they know they will get a whack. Bottom line is, they have no good reason to swoop.
