re: mahatir - common sense at last
There is a basic difference between the routing out of the Taliban in Afghanistan by the US and the terrorists acts in New York and Bali. The terrorists carefully planned and carried out those atrocities in the full knowledge they would be killing hapless innocent people. The people who died in the World Trade Centre and in the Bali nightclub were targets not collateral deaths. In Afghanistan, innocent civilians lost their lives (and that is extremely sad) but they were not targets of the US military.
Mahatir seems to me hell-bent on expanding this conflict to between the West and the Islamic world.
