Whilst I acknowledge your concerns, in the case of any one who suicides, complicated grief is often a factor. If an individual at any age, has not dealt with previous grief issues, bought about by a range of life challenging crisises, they too can enter into the high risk category. Add the pain of a current crisis and substance addiction and you have a very dangerous pre disposition for self harm.
Seeing we have one of the highest youth suicide rates in the world, its time to be there for others, listen in times of need and take a threat of self harm seriously. Often the best question to ask is simply "Have you thought about how you might do that?". If the individual discusses a plan of action, some immediate action and response is needed.
