One matter that did not get a lot of attention in 2009, was the fact that Stephen Mitchell sought Liberal Party preselection for the Federal seat of Wannon.

He was narrowly beaten by Dan Tehan, who went onto win the seat for the Liberals in 2010.

Had Stephen been successful in the preselection, presumably he would have resigned as Managing Director of MPO to allow him to focus on his political ambitions.
