I'm not quite there yet but the Saudi/Gulf Sheik fear of the Muslim Brotherhood tangent of the Salafi movement is clearly in the mix.  

Is this just propaganda from Iran?  Maybe .... however Erdogan welcomed the Brotherhood to Turkey.  On the surface the belief basis of the Brotherhood, the House of Saud's Wahhabism and the core Salafi movements look similar ... indeed identical to outsiders.  On the inside they hate and fear each other noting the determination of the Brotherhood to 1) remove monachies from the ME and 2) adopt their style to accomodate some modernity in a manner that other Salafists will not.

To make sense of any of this we must first  accept that there are multiple wars within Islam ...... and on that basis it is not beyond reason that some UAE Sheiks could support Kemalists in ousting the pro-Brotherhood Erdogan.

For now this is all speculation.
